Wrexham A.F.C. fans will have an easier time getting home after the away fixture against Cardiff City on August 17, thanks to an extra late-night train service announced by Transport for Wales. The additional service will leave Cardiff Central at 10.36pm and arrive at Wrexham General at 2.07am. However, supporters are being urged to plan their journeys carefully due to essential engineering works affecting rail services in and around Wrexham. The additional late-night service will travel from Cardiff via Shrewsbury, Crewe, and Chester. Due to planned engineering work between Shrewsbury and Wrexham, a rail replacement bus will connect with the train at Shrewsbury. The bus will depart Shrewsbury at 12.55am, calling at Gobowen, Chirk, and Ruabon before continuing to Wrexham General. Georgie Porter, Head of Events Planning and Delivery at Transport for Wales, said: “We’re pleased to provide an additional late-night service to help supporters travel home from an all-Welsh fixture in Cardiff. “However, it’s important that customers travelling to the game check their journeys carefully, as essential engineering work means some services will be replaced by buses. “Planning ahead will help ensure everyone can travel with confidence and arrive at their destination safely.” The fixture comes at the beginning of a two-week period of disruption to rail services around Wrexham. From Sunday, August 16 until Sunday, August 30, the railway line between Wrexham Central and Bidston will be closed. Rail replacement buses will run between Bidston and Wrexham General or Wrexham Central approximately every 45 minutes from Monday to Saturday and hourly on Sundays. The buses will also continue beyond Bidston to Birkenhead North, where passengers can connect with Merseyrail services towards Liverpool. A further closure will affect the railway between Wrexham General and Shrewsbury from Monday, August 17 until Sunday, August 30. Replacement buses will operate hourly from Monday to Saturday and up to every two hours on Sundays, while hourly train services between Crewe and Wrexham General will continue to operate. TfW has warned that replacement buses may take longer than the normal rail services and is advising passengers to allow extra time and check their journeys before setting off. They are 24 points behind leaders Coventry. So far this season, Wrexham A.F.C. have scored 69 goals and conceded 65, with a +4 goal difference.
