Wrexham A.F.C. are pursuing a deal to sign Norway international centre-back Henrik Falchener from Viking Stavanger. The Championship club have already lodged two offers which have been rejected by the Norwegian champions, the latest of which totalled €9.5m (£8.1m) including bonuses.
Why Wrexham A.F.C. Need Falchener
Wrexham A.F.C. have been looking to strengthen their defence this summer, with defensive reinforcements a priority. Despite having six senior centre-backs at their disposal, the club conceded 65 goals in the league last season, the seventh highest in the division.
What Comes Next?
If Wrexham A.F.C. can complete a deal for Falchener, he would likely slot in between Zak Vyner and Callum Doyle as the first choice backline. Lewis Brunt, who made 41 appearances in two seasons for the club, is leaving for Bolton Wanderers for a fee in the region of £500,000, but whether others follow should Falchener arrive, including Max Cleworth, who has been a mainstay of the side since the club's National League days, Dan Scarr and Dominic Hyam, who went to the World Cup with Scotland, remains to be seen.
Current Form
Wrexham A.F.C. are currently 24 points behind leaders Coventry in the Championship, with a goal difference of +4. They have scored 69 goals this season, but will be looking to strengthen their defence to challenge for a top-seven finish.
