Tom O'Connor has reflected on his part in Wrexham A.F.C.'s historic three successive promotions, calling it a special achievement. The former defender made 115 appearances and scored eight goals during a period that saw the club rise from the National League to the Championship.
O'Connor was one of ten players to be part of all three promotions, a unique record for the club. He joined from Burton Albion in January 2022 as a midfielder but moved into the backline due to injuries, eventually establishing himself as the regular left centre-back.
"When you're in the moment, it's a bit of a whirlwind," O'Connor said. "Back-to-back-to-back promotions is special." The 27-year-old left Wrexham by mutual consent last season to join Peterborough United, where he played 19 matches before an injury cut short his loan spell.
His departure came as Wrexham, now owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, continue their Championship campaign. The club currently sits 14th in the table with 10 points from eight games, a position built on recent form of two wins, two draws and one defeat.
O'Connor's defensive contributions during the promotion years are now part of the club's modern history. He worked through the summer to recover from his injury and is now looking ahead with his new club. Wrexham's focus, meanwhile, is on their next Championship fixture, an away trip to face 22nd-placed Derby County on October 10. The full schedule is available on our fixtures page.
