Why so much interest in Wrexham's Harry Ashfield?
Ashfield joined Wrexham's academy in 2015 as a local youngster and steadily progressed through the club's youth ranks. His development was recognised in 2024 when he was named the Bob Clark Wrexham Academy Player of the Season. He made his first-team debut on 10 October 2023, coming off the bench in Wrexham's 3-0 EFL Trophy victory over Crewe Alexandra. He initially featured mainly in cup competitions, before scoring his first senior goal in a 4-1 EFL Trophy win over Port Vale in February 2025. Ashfield made his Championship debut on 1 January 2026, appearing as a substitute in Wrexham's away win over Blackburn Rovers. He then joined League Two side Cheltenham Town on loan in February 2026 and impressed as they battled to secure their survival.

Ashfield returned to Wrexham in the summer and has featured regularly for the first team during pre-season, giving him another opportunity to stake his claim for a greater role under the club's management. Those appearances have further underlined his progress after years of development within the academy. Ashfield's rise has also earned international recognition, with the midfielder receiving his first Wales Under-21 call-up in March 2026 for the 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers.
