Wrexham A.F.C. first-team coach Dave Jones spoke about the importance of continuing to promote the club by taking part in The Soccer Tournament and engaging with the club's American fanbase. The tournament, which is now in its fourth season, has seen Wrexham Red Dragons team being ever-present so far. This year saw the launch of the first ever mixed tournament, with Steven Fletcher, a two-time promotion winner with the Reds, making his debut as he led the men’s selection and Rosie Hughes, a prolific goalscorer, leading Wrexham’s women’s selection. Although Wrexham Red Dragons were defeated in the group stage, a good crowd of Wrexham supporters were once again in attendance and they got the chance to meet and greet the players in a special event prior to the tournament. First-team coach Jones and goalkeeper coach Aidan Davison were among the members of staff present, along with chief executive Michael Williamson and director Shaun Harvey, with the club heading back to the United States next month for a pre-season tour ahead of the 2026-27 Championship campaign. But Jones says the promotional aspect of the trip to TST to engage with the American audience is just as important. "It's the fourth year we've been doing it and the competition has changed, for us and the purpose of it over the years," he said. "Not so many football clubs are represented now, it is all specialised seven-a-side teams, so for us to continue being out there has been really good and the fans really appreciate us making the effort. "When we go there, we get a great welcome. The majority of the football shirts that we see out there are Wrexham shirts, which is crazy and shows the appreciation for Wrexham. "A few of the staff go out there and engage with fans. "This year we had Fletch leading the men and Rosie leading the women; Mark Howard was there as well doing a lot for Wrexham. "They have got a strong relationship with their profiles out in America with the fans who know them from the documentary. They have a really good history of playing for the club. "Although it wasn't a Wrexham team as such, it was a good opportunity for the club to engage with the fans. "The fans want to see us out there and it sets us up nicely going into the pre-season tour when the full squad goes out there." Wrexham will return Stateside for the third time, and first since 2024, for a pre-season tour next month where they will play friendlies against Liverpool, Leeds United and Sunderland. The club has become a global sensation under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, with the Reds now mixing it with the biggest clubs in the United Kingdom when it comes to heading to America on tour. "Usually it is the privileged clubs, the Premier League clubs, that go out there to America," added Jones. "That's where the big tours happen for the big clubs that have been going to America for years. "It is usually reserved for the very elite teams that are competing at the top end of the Premier League and the Champions League, and we are playing Liverpool this year!"
