Wrexham A.F.C. manager Phil Parkinson refuses to comment on individual players as the team continues to be linked with a host of potential transfer targets ahead of tonight's Welsh derby. The Reds finished seventh in the second tier last term, just two points away from the play-offs, and are looking to build on that successful campaign. Parkinson has completed three new signings - goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, wing-back Danny Imray and midfielder Ben Whiteman - ahead of the clash away to Cardiff City this evening. With centre-back Lewis Brunt joining Bolton Wanderers in a bid to gain more game-time, Parkinson is eager to add to his defensive options before the summer transfer window closes on September 1. Wrexham have been linked with Norway international Henrik Falchener, currently with the country's defending league champions Viking Stavenger, along with Harry Souttar, who plays for Leicester City and Australia. Parkinson said: "We're linked with so many players and I'd never want to comment on any individuals. But there's been times this summer and it's just normal that we enquire about a player sometimes on loan, and next thing we've offered £7 million for the player. There's lots of players we're rumoured to be interested in and I'd rather just keep our counsel on that, and then if we get close to a signing or we sign one, then obviously everybody will know straight away. We're still not where we want to be with the squad. We're not there yet. It's going to be competitive as ever and we've got to make sure the squad is capable of dealing with the rigours of a Championship season. We've got some big decisions to make, as always, and hopefully by the end of this transfer window we'll have the squad numbers-wise where we want it but also strength and quality, and we're working extremely hard to achieve that. Patterson is set to be named first choice keeper and in line to make his debut at The Cardiff Stadium. With Arthur Okonkwo, Danny Ward and Callum Burton other options in the goalkeeping department, it seems a departure in that position is inevitable but Parkinson was keeping his cards close to his chest. Obviously we wanted to strengthen the goalkeeping department which we've now done. We'll assess things as we go along before the close of the window.
