Ryan Barnett has completed a season-long loan move from Wrexham AFC to MK Dons, confirmed on Thursday. The 26-year-old winger, who joined Wrexham from Solihull Moors in February 2023, will join Paul Warne's newly promoted League One side pending FA, EFL, and international clearances. Barnett, who made 112 competitive appearances for Wrexham, played 40 league games in the 2024/25 season, scoring two goals and providing nine assists as the club earned promotion from League One.
Loan Move to MK Dons
Barnett's loan to MK Dons follows Wrexham's recruitment of key players and increased competition in the squad. The winger, known for his pace and attacking delivery from right wing-back, will aim to replicate his impact at Wrexham in League One. MK Dons, who were promoted from League Two in 2025/26, seek to reestablish themselves in the division after two seasons away.
Barnett's Impact at Wrexham
Barnett became a vital part of Wrexham's three successive promotions from the National League to the Championship. His 112 appearances for the club included a goal of the season against Forest Green Rovers in April 2024 and a spot in the 2024-25 League One Team of the Season. Despite playing just 400 minutes in the Championship during the 2025/26 season, his contributions were critical to Wrexham's success.
Phil Parkinson, Wrexham's manager, praised Barnett's professionalism: 'I'm really pleased for Barney... His attitude while he's been out of the side has been terrific. Now the time is right for him to get back playing again.'
