The funeral for former Wrexham AFC player and manager Graham 'Ossie' Jones has been confirmed for Friday, November 13. Jones, a central defender who made three first-team appearances for the club in the 1960s, died on October 12 at the age of 77.

His funeral service and committal will take place at Pentrebychn Crematorium in Wrexham from 10:45am. The family has requested family flowers only, with donations in his memory welcomed for the Memories Support Group via the Dementia Friendly Wrexham charity.

Career highlights

Jones spent the majority of his playing days with Lex FC. After his playing career, he moved into management and led Chirk during the 1988/89 season, a campaign which culminated in the club winning the WNL Premier Division Cup.

Tributes from friends

Phil Jones, a close friend of 60 years and patron of Lex FC, paid a heartfelt tribute. "He leaves behind a lasting impact on the football world and on everyone fortunate enough to know him," he said. Jones was also described as a dearly loved husband, father and proud grandfather.

The news comes as the current Wrexham side prepares for a significant Championship fixture. The club faces league leaders Middlesbrough at home on November 4. The team, currently 18th in the Championship with 14 points from 13 games, will be looking to improve on a recent run of one win, one draw and three defeats. Their last victory was a 4-1 win over Preston on October 17. This season, Wrexham have scored 15 goals and conceded 19, with striker K. Moore their top scorer with five goals. The upcoming match against Middlesbrough presents a considerable challenge, with Wrexham sitting 14 points behind the league leaders.
