Wrexham A.F.C. are pursuing a club-record transfer for Norway international defender Henrik Falchener, with a potential $10.9 million deal on the table. The Red Dragons have already seen two bids rejected by Viking Stavanger, the Norwegian champions, as they look to bolster their defense ahead of the new Championship season. Wrexham finished 7th in the 2025 Championship, scoring 69 goals and conceding 65, leaving them 24 points behind leaders Coventry.
Who is Henrik Falchener?
The 23-year-old center back was a standout performer for Viking Stavanger, helping them win the Eliteserien title in 2025. He scored six goals from defense during their championship campaign and was named Eliteserien Player of the Month in May 2025. Falchener also made his senior international debut for Norway in 2026 and was part of their World Cup squad, appearing in their quarterfinal run.
Why does Wrexham need a new defender?
Wrexham conceded 65 goals last season, their highest total since relegation from the Football League in 2008. Manager Phil Parkinson is looking to strengthen the defense, with Lewis Brunt already sold to Bolton Wanderers. Falchener’s versatility-he can play centrally or on the left-would give Parkinson tactical flexibility.
What’s next for the transfer?
Wrexham have already broken their transfer record this summer with the signing of Anthony Patterson for $10.8 million. If they secure Falchener, it would signal a major statement of intent as they aim to challenge for promotion. Viking, however, are reluctant to sell, as they prepare for a Champions League playoff against Dinamo Zagreb.
