Catherine Zeta-Jones has refused multiple invitations from Ryan Reynolds to appear on the Welcome to Wrexham documentary. The Oscar-winning actress, a lifelong Swansea City fan, said she could not visit the club.
Zeta-Jones made the comments during a radio appearance. "I wasn't asked once. I was asked many times," she said, explaining her repeated refusals. She stated her devotion to her hometown club made a trip to Wrexham impossible, joking that she feared a hostile reception.
Her family has deep ties to Swansea City. Her uncle, Robert Jones, was the club's chairman during their famous promotion to the top flight under John Toshack in 1981. Zeta-Jones herself was in the front seat of the victory parade that year.
The news comes as Wrexham A.F.C. Continues its Championship campaign, currently sitting 14th in the table. The club has accumulated 10 points from its first eight games, with a goal difference of minus two, having scored 11 goals and conceded 13. Their most recent outing was a 2-1 home victory over Southampton, with Kieffer Moore scoring the winner in the 86th minute. Moore is the club's top scorer this season with three goals.
Wrexham's next match is an away trip to face Derby County on October 10. The Rams are currently 22nd in the league. The club will be looking to build on their recent form, which includes two wins, two draws, and one loss in their last five games.
