Wrexham A.F.C. have made their first summer signing, securing wing-back Danny Imray from Premier League side Crystal Palace. The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Red Dragons for an undisclosed fee reported to be around £5 million ($6.7 million).
Who is Danny Imray?
Imray, who joined Crystal Palace as a teenager, spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion in the Championship. He made 17 appearances for the Baggies, contributing a goal and two assists. Imray featured in Wrexham’s 2–2 draw with West Brom in April, a match that came during West Brom’s 10-game unbeaten run to avoid relegation.
Why this signing matters for Wrexham A.F.C.
The addition of Imray addresses a key position for Wrexham, with both Aaron James and Ryan Barnett expected to leave the club. Imray’s pace and attacking ability make him a valuable asset as Wrexham aim for promotion to the Premier League. The club finished seventh in the Championship last season with 71 points, just two points shy of the playoff spots.
What Imray brings to the team
Imray expressed his excitement about joining Wrexham, highlighting the club’s upward trajectory and community focus. He said, “First and foremost, I think where this club is going it’s definitely on an upward trajectory. It’s just everything about the club really-everything behind the scenes. I’ve watched Welcome to Wrexham and it’s not just a football club that wants to do well on the pitch, but one that wants to do well off the pitch too.”
What’s next for Wrexham A.F.C.?
Imray has joined the team in New York ahead of their preseason friendly with Liverpool. Wrexham will also face Sunderland in Pennsylvania before returning home to prepare for the Carabao Cup first round against Middlesbrough. The club’s recent form, including a draw with Chelsea in the FA Cup and wins over Manchester United and Leeds United in friendlies, shows their ambition to compete at the highest level.
