RBC's New Sponsorship Deal

Canada’s largest bank, RBC, has recently inked a deal to become the official banking partner of Wrexham AFC, a club that is majority co-owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac. This partnership is not just a business move for RBC; it’s a personal one for Reynolds and Mac, who have a deep connection to the club.

“‘What started as a bold idea has grown into one of the most remarkable stories in sport - three promotions in three seasons, a community at its heart and the world watching,’” said Dave McKay, RBC's chief executive. “We’re proud to partner with a club that shares our belief in the power of community.”

Wrexham AFC, which was founded in 1864, is Wales’ oldest professional football club and the third oldest in the world. The club has been making significant strides in recent seasons, having secured three promotions in three seasons. Currently, they play in the Championship division, which is England’s second-tier league. Their ultimate goal is to get promoted to the Premier League in the near future.

Personal Connection and Community

Reynolds and Mac, who completed their takeover of the historic club in 2021, are excited about the partnership. “We’re thrilled to welcome RBC to Wrexham,” they said in a statement. “One of us opened his first bank account with Royal Bank of Canada. We’ll let you guess which one. So, this one is personal.”

The partnership will be visible on the players' shirts, with RBC’s shield appearing on the back of the players’ shirts, above their name and number, on the club’s men’s and women’s home, away, and third kits. Wrexham will play its opening match of the season against Cardiff City on Monday.

Wrexham AFC’s journey under Reynolds and Mac has been nothing short of remarkable. The club, which played in the National League, the fifth tier of English soccer, in 2021, has since made its way up the divisions, securing promotions to the Conference North, the Conference Premier, and the National League. Their next goal is to reach the Premier League, and with RBC’s support, they are well on their way to achieving this ambitious target.
