Josh Windass is aiming to score 20 goals for Wrexham A.F.C. This season. The 32-year-old attacking midfielder has set the target as the club looks to build on its 14th-place position in the Championship.

Windass, who joined on a free transfer after his Sheffield Wednesday contract was terminated, has yet to score this campaign following a calf injury. He has made three starts and two substitute appearances since returning at the end of August. His ambition comes as Wrexham prepare for their next match away to Derby on 10 October, sitting on 10 points from eight games.

"In my career, I’ve set 20 every year and I’ve never got it," Windass said. He has twice reached 18 goals and scored 17 in all competitions last season, earning Wrexham's Player of the Season award. "I usually get double figures all the time so I’d like to get 20 but it’s not easy."

Windass on the Wrexham culture

The player highlighted the squad's strong bond as a key factor in his positive start at the Racecourse Ground. "Honestly, the dressing room is incredible, there's not one guy in there that I don't like," he said. Windass recalled a conversation in New York where singer Sam Smith asked him about playing for the club, to which he replied it was "incredible" and that players "don't realise how lucky we are."

His move materialised after manager Phil Parkinson contacted his agent. Windass revealed he spoke to two or three other Championship managers before deciding on Wrexham, convinced by the club's culture and its aim to challenge for the Premier League. Windass will be looking to open his account for the season and help push Wrexham up the standings as they continue their second-tier campaign.
