Wrexham A.F.C.'s former manager Andy Morrell was stunned by the amazing support he witnessed for the Reds during their pre-season tour in America.

What happened?

Morrell attended two games as a fan, taking in the match against Liverpool at New York's Yankee Stadium and watching the Reds face Sunderland in Philadelphia. The club's popularity has soared across the pond since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover at The Racecourse in February 2021, and the impact of the “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary.

Why it matters for Wrexham A.F.C.

Now a global sensation, Morrell witnessed the incredible backing three years ago when he represented Wrexham in The Soccer Tournament, but the 51-year-old says the support has gone through the roof since then. As of the final 2025 table, Wrexham A.F.C. finished 7th in the Championship, with 71 points, 19 wins, and 14 draws, and a recent form of DLWWL.

What comes next?

Morrell believes Phil Parkinson's men are in a much better position heading into the new campaign, with the team having scored 69 goals and conceded 65, resulting in a +4 goal difference, and currently 24 points behind leaders Coventry. The former striker took in the last two games of the pre-season tour, and was blown away by the huge backing for Wrexham, saying 'it just blows my mind from where we were'
